"It has been very useful to me, especially on the lavender honeyflow which is very far from my home. The remote box has also allowed me to use hive scales in apiaries that are very poorly covered by the Sigfox network."

THE COMPONENTS OF YOUR CONNECTED SCALES

The transmitter (2) communicates the weight of the hive (1) and the information from the brood and weather probes (3) to your software (6) via a network (Wlan or SIGFOX) (5) and if necessary a relay transmitter in hilly areas or areas poorly covered by the network (4)

Weight sensors (load cells)

  • Easy to install
  • Adapted to all hives: Dadant, Langstroth, Warré, Voirnot...
  • Weatherproof

We recommend that hobby beekeepers connect 4 hives the first year to validate their use. They often equip all their hives afterwards. Our solution has the advantage of being easily expandable.

Professional beekeepers generally equip 4 hives per apiary of 30 to hives and this on all their apiaries (generally about ten) to intervene only when it is necessary and to manage the priorities between the apiaries.

An IP68 certified waterproof case protects the electronic components from the elements.

The weight sensor is the most common in the industry. It is commonly used in personal scales. It supports up to 150 Kg of load without failing.

The rigidity of the glass board distributes the weight of the beehive evenly and thus offers precise measurements. Its thickness of 20 mm guarantees a good resistance to the shocks of use.

Professional beekeepers mostly follow a representative sample of each apiary (between 4 and 8 hives).

You can quickly move your hives as soon as you confirm the start of the honey flow in your weight curves.

The 5 mm thick galvanized steel support is perfectly resistant to handling shocks. The electronic components are protected from the elements within a waterproof IP68 certified case.

The Zemic C3 class load cell is used in many industrial equipments (pallet truck or production line with weighing) for its long life and reliability.

The rigidity is ensured by an assembly with thick plates.

The whole unit is made of galvanized steel to resist to bad weather on the long term.

The connected scales of Reihe Science are used mainly in school apiaries and for research, particularly on health impacts.

Beekeepers interested in the more scientific aspects equip one or two hives to characterize specific phenomena on a daily basis.

The scale is made entirely of stainless aluminium. The 2 plates of 10 mm thickness stiffen the structure and ensure an optimal precision of the data.

The IP68-rated waterproof case protects the electronics from rain and moisture.

The ZEMIC L6E3 - 150, class C3 load cell is used in many industrial equipments (weighing pallet truck or production line with weighing) for its long life and reliability.

Transmitters

Today, there is no technical solution that works throughout Europe. We adapt the configurations to your location and cover about 95% of Europe with the SIGFOX network.

For this reason, we systematically carry out a diagnosis of the networks in each location to validate the best technical solution.

Here are our 3 most common configurations.

WLAN

Material

Transmitter Wlan + relay box near your box

Connected hives

Up to 24 hives with additional transmitters

Plain

Area with good network coverage

Material

Transmitter
SIGFOX

Connected hives

4 connected hives

Mountain

Poorly covered area and rugged terrain

Material

SIGFOX transmitter
and relaytransmitter

Connected hives

Up to 24 hives with additional transmitters

The Mountain Transmitter Relay can be used as a "tester" to help you determine the best position of this box around the apiary for each of your locations.

Additional transmitters

Each transmitter connects 4 hives simultaneously. With the additional transmitters, you can connect up to 24 hives (on one apiary) with one subscription.

The effects of waves on bees

The SIGFOX transmitters emit harmless waves of very low power which do not disturb the bees at all. In the "mountain" and "Wlan" configuration, the main transmitter sends information back to the relay transmitter, in which case communication takes place via FSK waves, also at very low power.

Subscriptions

The choice of your subscription will depend primarily on the network coverage of your apiary. We always recommend the most advantageous solution for you.

We never share your data. Only you can access it. We produce department-wide statistics from anonymised data.

Why 4 scales?

We started, like everyone else, with one connected hive per apiary but the results were of no use to us. As soon as the selected hive showed an abnormal behaviour (weak colony, swarming...), we were back to the starting point to open all the hives.

As the tests progressed, we found a good balance with 4 scales. We never found more than two hives out of 4 with specific behaviors. This way you always have reliable data to act at the right time.

Do I have to equip all my hives?

We recommend that hobby beekeepers equip 4 hives the first year to validate their use.

French and German professional beekeepers usually connect a fraction of their hives. Belgian beekeepers are increasingly equipping the entire apiary. They optimize the whole production with targeted interventions. They obtain equivalent results with 20% fewer hives.

How many scales can I connect to one receiver?

Our receivers accommodate 4 scales simultaneously. You can connect up to 6 receivers on an apiary (24 scales) with a single subscription using the additional receivers.

Why is the gram accuracy of some scales misleading?

Most commercial beehive scales are equipped with class C3 sensors which have an accuracy of +/- 50 g. The indication of a resolution of 10 g refers to the number of digits of the display and not to the accuracy.
